Embedded Computers/PCs
Embedded computers/PCs are lightweight and utilitarian, and suitable for digital signage, industrial automation, mobile computing, and medical applications, and more. These PCs are known for their reliability and large variety of applications. Compact and efficient, embedded computers perform one specific function and are a part of a larger system.
Embedded computers feature four key characteristics:
- Small Form Factor. As embedded computers go in small, (often) portable devices, they need to be compact and space-efficient.
- Low-Power Components. There is limited space for cooling in smaller devices. Embedded computers need to run on low power so that they stay cool without cooling features.
- Maximum Upgradeability/Expansion. Options to expand or upgrade are common in embedded computers to provide maximum flexibility and maximum integration.
- Longevity of Supply. Systems use chipset and components that will be available for many year allowing customer to maintain a stable configuration.
Embedded computers can perform in harsh conditions and meet industrial computing needs. Tekdis offers a wide range of options including DIN rail mounts, fanless box PCs, rackmount units, and more such products from the best manufacturers in the industry, including Axiomtek, IEI Technology and Nexcom Mobile PCs.

Features of Industrial Computing
8th/9th GEN CPU
8th and 9th generation CPUs come with core series embedded processors in a range of i3, i5, i7 and i9 models. These motherboards feature the highest clock speeds and best performance.
9-36VDC Vehicle Use
For most automotive and industrial installs, the 9-36VDC is an embedded PC for mobile applications or battery-backed environments with a wide input voltage.
NVidia GPU
As the leading supplier of embedded AI processors, Nvidia offers products from NANO to TX2 to Xavier models. These products are very popular for robotics, ADAS, LPR and intelligent machines. AI processing capabilities include 1050, 1080, RTX2080, RTX3080, Tesla, and Quadro models.
AI Processing
As artificial intelligence (AI) applications need to quickly and efficiently handle many calculations, they require FPUs or GPUs. AI is used for human-like computing for applications such as machine learning, ADAS, LPR, driverless vehicles, and robotics.
Fanless
Industrial computers must handle a high level of dust or dirt to function efficiently in an industrial setting. Many industrial computers are fanless that limit the airflow coming through the unit, but the heat is dissipated through conduction. Fanless industrial computers are ideal for digital signage, industrial automation, mobile computing, and medical applications.
IP67 Rated
For computers exposed to high levels of dust and water, IP (Ingress Protection) is a necessary requirement. IP67 prevents dust from entering into the system and is waterproof when immersed in 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. For abattoirs, food processing, mining, military and traffic control application, IP67-rated machines are a must.
Box
Box PCs, the most common format of embedded PCs, are often used in cabinet enclosures, vehicles, and digital signage. They are ideal for any industrial application.
CAN module
CAN (Controller Area Network), is ideal for automotive and robotics uses as it is a serial vehicle bus standard that creates a channel of communication between microcontrollers and devices. Tekdis offers the mPCIe, M.2, and PCIe CAN bus controller cards. Supported protocols include J1938, OBD II, and host drivers conforming to OPENCAN and SocketCAN.
1U/2U/4U Rack
A rack is a 19-inch wide area that allows for installation of an expansion card. A 1U rack has one unit of this space, the 2U has two units (3.5 inches wide), and the 4U has four units (5.25 inches wide). In these chassis, the user can install a variety of backplanes and processor cards.

Types of CPU
ARM-Based
ARM processors are a RISC based architecture which feature fewer transistors, which translates to lower costs, less power consumption, and better heat dissipation. They are perfect for smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other lightweight, battery-operated devices. These ARM-based modules and SBCs support Linux and Android OS.
AMD/Nvidia
For digital signage and gaming needs, AMD offers great GPU solutions for the most complex graphics applications. Nvidia GPUs are popular choices for robotics, advanced driver advisory systems (ADAS), license plate recognition (LPR), and intelligent machines. They offer the highest level of AI processing through MXM and PCIe card formats. The AI processing levels range from 1050, 1080, RTX2080, RTX3080, Tesla, and Quadro models.
Atom
Atom, a type of Intel processor, fits into the x86 and x86-64 families of processors. These processors are ideal for low power, wide temp and efficient internet devices.
Celeron/Pentium
Compared to Atom, Celeron and Pentium offer better performance in terms of graphics. Though they out-perform Atom, they still feature economical hardware and Windows IOT licensing. These processors are ideal for single-screen digital signage and other GUI-based applications.
i3
With two cores, the Core i3 requires a Windows IOT Value license and is the lowest in clock speed and performance, but it is the perfect fit for targeted and economic applications.
i5
As a mid-tier option, the i5 has four to six cores. Like the i3, it requires a Windows IOT Value license, but it does have higher clock speeds and performance. It can handle a higher level of processing, decoding, and graphics performance.
i7
At the high end, the i7 has up to eight cores. It offers the best performance and clock speeds for the most demanding processing, decoding, and graphics. Unlike the i3 and i5, the i7 CPU requires a High End License.
i9
The i9 processor family features an innovative new architecture designed for intelligent performance (AI), immersive display & graphics, and enhanced tuning & expandability to put users in control of real-world experiences that matter most to them.
Xeon
Targeted for non-consumer workstations, servers, and embedded applications, Xeon processors are the top name in x86 processing. Xeon offers the highest number of cores, resulting in the highest clock speeds. With error checking and memory correction, these processors are less prone to data corruption and are more reliable.
